Escape from America

My upcoming trip

Escape from America
Montpellier, France. (Wikimedia)

In less than a month, I will be boarding a plane to Europe, where I intend to spend a significant amount of time. This trip will give me a chance to put a little space between myself and a country that is my home but often feels like a perverse funhouse mirror version of itself these days. I think some distance will offer me some perspective.

I'll be spending at least three months in Europe—unless I can acquire a visa to stay a month or two longer—and my trip will begin in San Sebastián, Spain. I'll be spending three nights there, and then I'll be taking a train to Barcelona. I'll spend one night in Barcelona, and then I'm off to Montpellier, France, which is a medium-sized city near the Mediterranean.

Montpellier will be my home base for at least a month, and then we'll see where the wind takes me. Some of my posts here will focus on my travel, so you'll be able to live vicariously through me. I'll take lots of pictures. I will be writing some posts focused on what's going on in the world between now and my departure date, so stay tuned.

Cheers,

Thor
