Voters want to see some anger
Jon Ossoff and Abdul El-Sayed are showing Democrats how to fight.
Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) has been making headlines recently for how aggressive he's been in his debates against his political opponent, Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA). Ossoff has been highlighting Collins' employment of and association with white supremacists. He's said Collins has "hired half the Third Reich," called him a "bigot" and stated that he would have been out there with a "billy club" during the Civil Rights marches.
It's pretty clear that Ossoff does not like this man and genuinely thinks his association with white supremacists is repugnant. As Ossoff has leveled these attacks against Collins, he's received tremendous positive feedback on social media. People seem to find his combative rhetoric appealing and refreshing.

Personally, I think it's great. I think Democrats have been handling Republicans with kid gloves for far too long, and it's time for them to step up and meet the moment. Ossoff isn't the only Democrat who's seen the benefits of being aggressive, though. Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Michigan, has also received praise for his willingness to throw a punch.
El-Sayed has essentially accused his opponent of being a corporate stooge, a Trump toady and someone who's completely out of touch with regular people. El-Sayed is pretty funny, too, which helps with the delivery of these criticisms. The Trump administration must be worried about El-Sayed's abilities, because they recently sent JD Vance to Michigan to back up his Republican opponent.
Many progressives feel Ossoff is a little too moderate for their taste, but they're still heaping praise on him for his approach. Many moderates think El-Sayed is too far to the left for them, but he's earning the approval of center-left voters. In certain moments, ideology seems less important than how a politician carries themselves and what kinds of signals they're sending.

I think people on the left are celebrating this unfiltered, forceful approach to politics because they want to see their own anger reflected in the people who are running to represent them. Donald Trump has done so much harm to this country and gotten away with so much that the average Democratic voter is furious right now. They want to see their representative hit back as hard as they feel they've been hit.
People are tired of "strongly-worded letters" and Democrats "working across the aisle" in response to Trump's obscene acts of cruelty and lawlessness. They want a politician who's going to call a Nazi a Nazi and promise to hold these people accountable for the terrible things they've done.
Some Democrats have clearly figured this out, and they've put on their boxing gloves. I think they'll continue to be rewarded for that, and I think other Democrats might take note of what's happening here and adjust their behavior. When a white supremacist is in the Oval Office, and he's made it his goal to dismantle our democracy, it is not the time to play nice.
